THE woke corporate class running our councils and state and federal bureaucracies have created a disaster that is now consuming private property in forced sales. Councils in particular are saving themselves from the skyrocketing debt and inflation created by big-spending Labor governments by liquidating private properties.
Across the nation, but in Victoria especially, the effects of skyrocketing council rates and government taxes are being seen as homeowners and tenants find themselves burdened with often unpayable debt demands with threats of forced sales and evictions.
The total tax burden on the private home in Victoria is now approaching or past the $10,000 mark. Adding to this disaster is collapsing property prices in Melbourne which has placed many property owners in negative equity.
Albanese, speaking to his Labor comrades in Queensland, has tried to shift the blame on to One Nation, who he accused of spreading disinformation and misinformation, and that “he owes it to history’ to defeat them.
According to recent financial data available online, unpaid council rates in Victoria rates reached $920,556,009, and has been growing significantly over prior years.
One story even shocked mainstream Nine media – a couple’s rates in Whittlesea in north Melbourne increased from $3000 a year – a manageable $58 a week – to more than $12,000, a shocking $230 a week for council services, but not including a separate charge for rubbish bin collection and state government levies.
The rate rise was based on a massive revaluation of their property to $4.5 million – effectively an additional $9000 council tax on a home and the land it sits on.
The disaster has spread to other states. In 2022 case covered by ACA, a families in the Gosford municipality were handed bills for curbs and gutters put in 16 years ago and given 30 days to pay or face penalties and debt collectors. They refused to pay.
In another NSW North Coast council the rates went up 39% in a single year, leaving one pensioner ratepayer with a bill for $4716.
This is a crisis created by mainstream politics, largely the Labor Party supported by the Greens.
It is fat, bloated government fueling inflation through heavy borrowing, and government that must be slashed and heavily pruned. Albanese and his Labor Party claim they have answers for this state of affairs and One Nation doesn’t.
Labor and the Greens are essentially addicted to big government. To them government has all the answers. It doesn’t. Government must leave room for individual enterprise. Charity for the poor is often best provided by churches or other community organisations.
The Commonwealth public servant wage bill has increased by roughly $8.5 billion (or about 23% to 26%), rising from $32.3 billion in June 2022 to over $40.8 billion by mid-2025.
This spending, on top of existing bureaucratic folly such as Federal Department of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water, must be slashed. One Nation has a tough job ahead of them in Canberra.
