FIVE prominent online talking heads have come together in a forum called The Chamber, to thrash out some of the pressing issues of the day, including most importantly the so-called Duty of Care Bill (Online Safety and Age-Appropriate Digital Access Bill 2024), which contains jail sentences of 12 months for Australians found to have failed to comply with standard statutory requirements.
While the Bill does not propose multi-year sentences for “hate speech” it does propose fines reaching up to $109.2 million for a platform “failing to maintain a safe online environment”, which will be exclusively up for the minister to rule on.
A “safe online environment” will allow an ideological Labor minister to declare a range of online platforms, including this one, “unsafe” for publishing controversial political views, such as anti-LGBTQ+ content and, according to our panel, even opposition to climate alarmism.
