$90 Back in Seniors’ Pockets: A First-Ever Medicare Payment. President Trump announced that the federal government will send one-time payments of $90 to more than 20 million Medicare enrollees to help cover their Part B premiums. The money comes from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which Congress funded with $2 billion but no Administration had ever used. Most eligible seniors will receive a direct deposit in early October; others will receive a check at the address they have on file with Medicare. Seniors can call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to check their eligibility.
On September 28, the President announced that Mesabi Metallics will build a $15 billion steel complex in Lee County, Iowa — the largest steel plant ever built in the United States. The project will create 1,750 permanent jobs and up to 6,000 construction jobs, and is expected to generate an estimated $95 billion in U.S. economic output. The same day, the President moved to reverse years of anti-mining policy, so American steel can be mined, melted, and poured in America.
Senate Democrats Block the Stop Insider Trading Act. Every Senate Democrat voted against the Stop Insider Trading Act, legislation that would ban Members of Congress, their spouses, and their dependent children from purchasing individual stocks. President Trump called for its passage in his State of the Union Address, and the White House notes that nearly 90% of Americans support a congressional stock trading ban. The bill also included a requirement to show photo ID to vote.
The Real Cost of Socialism: $49 Trillion. A new report from the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, “The Real Cost of Socialism in America,” estimates that adopting the Democratic Socialists of America’s top policies would cost American taxpayers $49 trillion over ten years — more than $350,000 per household — through higher taxes, rising prices, and lost jobs.
Mined, Melted, and Poured in America. Alongside the steel announcement, President Trump reversed years of anti-mining policy. Mesabi’s plan links iron ore from Minnesota’s Iron Range to steelmaking in Iowa, creating a fully American supply chain from mine to mill for the steel that national defense, cars, shipbuilding, and infrastructure depend on.
Easier Access to Government Services Through America.gov. On September 29, the President signed an Executive Order to streamline access to government services through America.gov, making it simpler for Americans to find and use the federal services they rely on.
Lower Car Costs, More American Energy, and Fairer Trade. The Administration ended Biden-era fuel economy rules, a move it says will make new cars about $1,300 cheaper. The Energy Information Administration raised its U.S. oil production forecasts for 2026 and 2027, and the new U.S.-China Board of Trade builds on last week’s historic State Visit.
Honoring American Workers and Families. President Trump proclaimed National Manufacturing Day, called on Congress to save college sports, signed S. 2398 into law, and recognized National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. First Lady Melania Trump announced the 2026 Fall Garden Tours of the White House.
