A climate activist has been restrained and removed from the chamber after disrupting proceedings in the New South Wales (NSW) Parliament during Question Time.
The incident occurred on Oct. 13, when a member of climate activist group Rising Tide jumped from the public gallery into the chamber and shouted accusations over the state government’s failure to address climate change.
The protester also demanded an end to coal exports and called on the NSW government to stop approving coal and gas projects.
Labor MP David Saliba and parliamentary staff intervened to restrain the activist before he was escorted from the chamber by security personnel.
A NSW Police spokesperson later confirmed that a 35-year-old man was removed from the chamber by special constables and issued a move-on direction, which he complied with.
“No further police action is expected at this time,” the spokesperson told The Epoch Times.
What Is Rising Tide, the Climate Activist Group?
Rising Tide is a climate activist group known for organising large-scale protests against fossil fuel expansion in Australia.
It has previously organised blockades of Newcastle Harbour—Australia’s oldest export port, including protests that resulted in hundreds of arrests in 2023 and 2024.
On July 29, Rising Tide activist Edie Griffin interrupted NSW Premier Chris Minns during a business address in Sydney, calling on the government to reject the proposed expansion.
