Feb 19 2025 was the 83rd anniversary of the bombing of Darwin 1942.
At least 250 people were killed on Feb 19 when the Japanese navy bombed the port of Darwin and initiated a campaign of Japanese bombing across the North.
And so there was a commemoration in Darwin of …. Larrakia country.
There was a big welcome with clapsticks, smoking gum leaves, dancing around in possum pelts by the look of it.
First there was the Welcome ceremony itself. Then eight speakers followed and all of them (except one and I am getting to that one) opened his address by acknowledging the Larrakia people as traditional owners of Darwin (Larrakia country), their culture and then paying respect to their elders past and present, etc.
Lia Finocchiaro, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory ditched the Aboriginal acknowledgement script and failed to pay her respects to Aboriginal ownership of country and elders past and present. Instead, she stated: “I would like to pay a special acknowledgement to veterans here today, to Territorians , to serving men and women, to the families and descendants of survivors , ladies and gentleman , but also importantly to our children.”
I think her acknowledgement to veterans and Territorians is inclusive. Aboriginal Territorians are certainly included in the CM’s respects. But acknowledgement of ownership not commemoration of a historic battle is what this is about; sovereignty, not inclusivity is the issue here. And wouldn’t you know it, the CM is now in deep doo-doos with the Aboriginal Industry, Labor for her failures in Marxist PC, cultural insensitivity and non-acknowledgement of indigenous claims.
The Feb 19 2025 was a commemoration of the Battle of Darwin which was fought by the Australians. When you know; you know. If members of the Larrakia people had distinguished themselves with battle honours, there is no way a line-up of self-flagellating Whites would have failed to give this not only a special mention but also its own commemoration. And probably a big plaque as well. They didn’t
The only reason why this Marxist PC has been permitted to take over an important Territorian and Australian military commemoration like the Feb 19 Battle of Darwin is because the Australians fought back against the Japanese attack. As the bombing campaign continued across the North, the Australians / Territorians mounted an effective defense. Allies came to their aid. The news may have been surpressed in Australia, but it went right around the world and in the end there was a coordinated response involving fighters, radar, and searchlights, scouts, rangers, spotters. And this response grew steadily to involve counterstrike from Australian bombers which started taking out the Japanese ships.
So the Australians won the Battle of Darwin. And the present Overseers of the Australians have stripped us of victory. If the Japanese had won, the Larrakia would have been assembled under guard on the beaches with the rest of the Territorians to cheer the landing of the occupation force if their lives had been spared.
