Former NCTC director says the FBI pulled counterterrorism analysts off the case after one or two weeks despite unresolved foreign leads

Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino attacked former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent after Kent publicly questioned why the FBI ended NCTC support in the Charlie Kirk assassination investigation.
Dan Bongino called Kent “stupid” while dismissing the criticism as a matter of NCTC authority.
Kent answered in a video posted to X. He said NCTC analysts had worked at the FBI’s request for roughly one or two weeks before the bureau told them their services were no longer needed and revoked their access to the FBI’s investigation repository.
“I protested. I disagreed. I thought that we still had a lot more work to do and I still believe that to this day.” — Joe Kent
Catholics for Catholics reported that Kent said the FBI treated the case as a “slam dunk” prosecution it intended to turn over to Utah.
Kent said his concern centers on social-media posts that appeared before the killing and predicted Kirk would die in Utah. He argued the posts suggest more people may have participated in the plot.
“Who killed Charlie Kirk, how, and why?” — Joe Kent
The Catholics for Catholics account backed Kent and John Yep, arguing that the FBI’s decision to cut off NCTC access demands a public explanation.
Bongino’s personal attack did not answer Kent’s central question: Why did the FBI stop the counterterrorism analysts from following potential foreign leads?
